What Discovery Cove is actually like

Discovery Cove is unlike anything else in Orlando. It is not a theme park. It is not a water park. The dolphin swim is the headline. It is a 30-minute guided experience in a lagoon with bottlenose dolphins and their trainers — you swim with them, interact under trainer supervision, and come away with professional photos of the encounter. For families where this is a bucket-list moment, it delivers without reservation.

But the non-swim experience is also excellent. The Grand Reef is a large snorkelling lagoon with tropical fish, sharks (behind glass), and rays. The Explorer Aviary lets birds land on you freely. The lazy river winds through the whole resort. The food — all included — is genuinely good quality, served in a proper beachside restaurant setting.

The honest truth about the cost: Discovery Cove is the most expensive day you'll spend in Orlando. It is also, for many families, the one they remember most.
