Epic Universe — Universal’s new park and what UK families need to know

Universal’s Epic Universe opened in May 2025 and is, without exaggeration, the most ambitious theme park to open anywhere in the world in years. It is a full third Universal gate — the same size as Islands of Adventure — built specifically to be seen at a different scale from anything Universal has done before.

What’s in it

  • The Wizarding World of Harry Potter: Ministry of Magic — A third Harry Potter area, set in 1920s Paris. Different era, different aesthetic, different rides to the Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley areas at the existing parks.
  • How to Train Your Dragon — Isle of Berk — Immersive Norse village environment, dragon training experiences, multiple rides.
  • The Monsters — Classic Monster Universe — Universal horror classics (Dracula, Frankenstein, The Wolfman) given a full atmospheric land treatment. Aimed at older children and adults.
  • Super Nintendo World — Mario Kart, Donkey Kong and the broader Nintendo universe. The US East Coast debut of this land.
  • Celestial Park — The central hub area, styled as a grand celestial observatory connecting all lands.

Do I need extra days for Epic Universe?

Yes. Epic Universe is a full park — plan a full day minimum. For families doing Universal for the first time, you now need at least two days at Universal to see both the existing parks and Epic Universe properly. Ideally three.

Is it on my ticket?

Epic Universe is included on park-to-park tickets that cover all Universal parks. The All Parks ticket is the cleanest option. Not all Universal tickets automatically include all three gates — check your specific ticket details.

Our honest take

If you’re planning an Orlando trip that includes Universal and you have the days, Epic Universe is genuinely unmissable. The Ministry of Magic area is the most impressive themed environment we have seen outside the original Diagon Alley — and Diagon Alley set the bar very high. For families where Universal is only a one-day add-on to a Disney trip: you may want to consider a second Universal day to do Epic Universe justice. It’s that good.
